Discovering Northern Iran’s Beauty

In 2018, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Rasht and Bandar Anzali, two stunning locations in Northern Iran. Nestled in the lush Gilan Province, these cities are rich in history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes. With my camera in hand, I set out to capture the essence of this region—its people, architecture, and natural beauty.

The Bustling Rasht Bazaar

One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the famous Rasht Bazaar. This lively market is a feast for the senses, filled with colorful spices, fresh seafood, and local delicacies. The energy of the vendors and the vibrant displays of goods made it a dream location for photography. I captured images of hardworking artisans, farmers selling their produce, and the intricate details of traditional Persian handicrafts.

Serene Views of Bandar Anzali & Mordab Lagoon

Bandar Anzali, a beautiful port city on the Caspian Sea, is home to Mordab Lagoon (Anzali Lagoon). This wetland is a paradise for nature lovers, with lush greenery, migratory birds, and tranquil waters. I spent hours photographing the serene landscapes, watching fishermen at work, and taking in the peaceful atmosphere. The reflections on the water during sunrise were simply magical.

Exploring Traditional Gilan Houses

Gilan Province is known for its unique wooden houses with sloped roofs, designed to withstand the region’s heavy rainfall. I visited several old-style homes that showcase the traditional architecture of Northern Iran. The intricate woodwork, colorful balconies, and cozy courtyards transported me back in time. These homes tell a story of a simpler, yet rich, way of life.

The People of Rasht & Bandar Anzali

One of the most memorable aspects of my journey was meeting the incredible workers of Rasht and Bandar Anzali. Whether it was a fisherman casting his net, a baker preparing fresh noon-e-barbari (Persian bread), or a shopkeeper proudly displaying his wares, each person I met had a story to tell. Their warmth and hospitality made my trip even more special.
